I just finished the transition of this blog (and other domains owned by me and Susana) from a server hosted at home to a proper server at a hosting facility, shared with our friends Annie and Tadek. Everything seems to have gone well, including migration of web and mail services. There shouldn’t be any visible [...]

Wordpress 2.1.1 and Cutline 1.1
February 27th, 2007 · No Comments
I finally took the plunge and updated my site to Wordpress 2.1 (2.1.1 in fact). The upgrade went quite well, nothing broke significantly. I also updated to the latest version of the excellent Cutline theme. I also used the opportunity to clean up my list of plugins (many I had enabled for testing, but not [...]

Fine tuning
December 14th, 2006 · No Comments
I’ve been making some more small changes to the look of my site. I really like the Cutline theme, and there is a lot of useful information at its web site. The latest two changes I have made are the Google ads in the header image and the site map, both of which you can [...]
Wordpress widgets
November 1st, 2006 · No Comments
Only now I have started playing with Wordpress widgets. One nice thing is that as long as you are using widget-aware themes, the structure of your sidebar remains the same throughout theme changes.
I noticed that the widget-configuration GUI doesn’t work perfectly with Safari. The widgets in the sidebar representation sometimes appear mangled, and the [...]

Even my modified theme (with the “Linky” style) worked perfectly, and all my plugins worked fine as well. Happy happy.

Wordpress 2.0 will be released any day now, and like any self-respecting geek, I would like to upgrade as soon as possible, just to have the shiniest, newest toy. The trickiest issue seems to be plugin compatibility. Here’s my current list of enabled plugins, and their status according to the compatibility list:

Akismet works
December 20th, 2005 · 2 Comments
After a few days using Akismet, it seems to work quite well. My blog doesn’t receive so much spam so far, but since I installed it 9 days ago, it has caught 11 spam messages, all correctly, and I haven’t had to moderate any more spam. Woohoo!

Anti-spam measures
December 11th, 2005 · No Comments
As of late, the amount of spam attempts on my blog has increased considerably. So far I’ve been deleting it manually (I have all comments moderated anyway), but it’s getting tiring, so I’ve just installed Akismet, we’ll see how it works…

Blogging links from digg
November 25th, 2005 · No Comments
I recently started looking at digg for interesting news and links. It has a very cool feature: you store the details of your blog, and then you can post articles from digg with a single click. So I created a low-privilege account here, entered that account info on digg, set the default category to “Linky” [...]
