I’m playing with new themes and some other changes on this site. If you find some things broken, please bear with me, the dust should settle soon.

Wordpress 2.0.1
March 5th, 2006 · No Comments
With the announcement of an SQL injection vulnerability in Wordpress 1.5.2, it was as good an opportunity as any to finally take the plunge and update this blog to 2.0.1. It was completely painless. Even my modified theme (with the “Linky” style) worked perfectly, and all my plugins worked fine as well. Happy happy.

Wordpress 2.0 and plugins
December 20th, 2005 · 1 Comment
Wordpress 2.0 will be released any day now, and like any self-respecting geek, I would like to upgrade as soon as possible, just to have the shiniest, newest toy. The trickiest issue seems to be plugin compatibility. Here’s my current list of enabled plugins, and their status according to the compatibility list:

Akismet works
December 20th, 2005 · 2 Comments
After a few days using Akismet, it seems to work quite well. My blog doesn’t receive so much spam so far, but since I installed it 9 days ago, it has caught 11 spam messages, all correctly, and I haven’t had to moderate any more spam. Woohoo!

Anti-spam measures
December 11th, 2005 · No Comments
As of late, the amount of spam attempts on my blog has increased considerably. So far I’ve been deleting it manually (I have all comments moderated anyway), but it’s getting tiring, so I’ve just installed Akismet, we’ll see how it works…

So I created a low-privilege account here, entered that account info on digg, set the default category to “Linky” [...]

Formatting problems fixed
September 24th, 2005 · No Comments
Bwaha! I finally sat down and tracked the problem with the extra white space. It turned out to actually be a bug in the very nice Coppermine integration plugin I use, but which had been fixed in the latest version. It was inserting a spurious “clear: both” that was causing the problem.
I’m very happy to [...]

Back from the dead

You may have noticed that the site was offline for three days. This was “upgrade weekend”, and it was a major change - I reinstalled my server from MacOS X Server to Gentoo Linux PPC. After a bumpy start, things are starting to get back into shape. There are still some things that may not [...]

Wordpress 1.5.2
August 16th, 2005 · No Comments
Wordpress 1.5.2 is out, and I have upgraded this site. I always find it amazing how easy the process it. Wordpress is a real example of a well-written and easy-to-use web application. This release supposedly fixes issues with category settings from Ecto - this post will be the test.
Update: categories work!
Spam!
April 3rd, 2005 · No Comments
Wow - I got my first round of comment spam today. I guess that means my little blog has gotten of age For now I’m still relying on Wordpress’ built-in features (all the spam was caught by moderation), but maybe I’ll have to look at some of the other available plugins….
